Nehemiah understood great, austentatious projects. He,like Noah, understood that when God called you to do something, you just did it. While reading through his account recently, I was reminded that when we are working on great projects for the Kingdom, there will always be those that jeer at us and are critical. Nehemiah faced great criticism, even those that plotted to kill him and those that supported him. Despite all of this, the posture of obedience and will to work continued. Nehemiah 4:6a says “So we built the wall,” even after all Sanballat and his men had said.
How do you continue work when others are so critical? When words that are said are heartbreaking and you feel you cannot move another step? You do what Nehemiah did:
- Pray for those who persecute you while you work. (Matthew 5:44)
- Continue to work and build the project you have been called to. (Philippians 1:6)
- Be reminded that you are not alone. God has set others next you to work with you, behind you to support you, and He is above and below you, to protect you. God has surrounded you with a great cloud of witnesses that are with you and those who have gone before you. (Hebrews 12:1)
Nehemiah said “‘Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.” No matter what He has called you to, it is for a greater purpose, something bigger than yourself, that will impact those around you and for generations to come.
YOU are carrying on a great project, my friend. Continue the work and be encouraged. No matter what He has called you to, it is important. No one else has been called to do this work like He has called YOU. He is faithful and just to complete the work He has started in you. Print and place this pdf to remind you in as many places as you need!!
You are loved.
