I use tote bags constantly. To tote my lunch work. To tote packages to the post office. To tote books to the coffee shop.
And because at Purse & Clutch we’re all about sustainability, to have our very own P&C tote makes a lot of sense. But it was next to impossible to find a fair trade company who was making customizable totes. And then! I received an email from Kristi Griem of Freeset.
Freeset is in business for freedom. Freedom from human trafficking.
tell me more!
Freeset is a wholistic fair trade business that sells bags and t-shirts, made by women freed from human trafficking in Calcutta, India. Every woman receives three times the wage they would receive in a regular job, learn to read and write, daycare for their children, have medical insurance and retirement benefits.
Count me in!
Our goal is to change the economic scope of Sonagacchi, Calcutta’s largest red light district, to one of freedom, instead of the sex trade.
P&C is so excited to partner with Freeset and we’re jumping right in with
their oh! so adorable tiny totes. AND they fold into a pouch AND they’re made
from organic cotton. Sounds like a match made in heaven.
here’s the thing. I get to design stuff all the time and get the joy of seeing
it go into production. So I decided to pass the opportunity along to you!
Finalists’ designs will be voted on by the community and the winning design will win totes for themselves and four of their BFFS!
The design area is 22cm wide by 24cm tall.
Please email your design to firstname.lastname@example.org by Saturday, February 9th to enter!
