A HUGE thing is happening today!! END SEX TRAFFICKING DAY!

I am honored to have Erin Giles, who founded End Sex Trafficking Day talk to you today about how she got involved with ending human trafficking and why she put a stake down and founded ESTD.

What was the tipping point to you get involved in advocating against human trafficking?

The tipping point for me was a powerful combination of watching the movie Nefarious: Merchant of Souls which is an award winning documentary about global sex trafficking and reading the book Screw Business as Usual by Richard Branson. When the light turned on telling me I must take on End Sex Trafficking Day I was full of energy + excitement to be able to stand up for freedom in a way that worked for me and my family.

What is a story that has gripped your heart the most from the stories you have read or seen yourself?

The story that I most remember is one told of young girls in Thailand shown in the movie Nefarious. A pastor went into a brothel posing as a John, paid to spend time with them and told them he was there to free them and educate them. They said they had to call their moms first while crying tears of joy because they so badly wanted to be free. He called their moms and their moms said no, they needed the income their daughters provided. The pastor then proceeded to tell their Mom’s he would pay their families the money their daughters would have brought home if they let him take care of them and get them educated. The moms still said…no.

How can we be a part of End Sex Trafficking Day?

By buying the book and sharing the site with all of your friends locally or online. We need all of the help we can get!

What is one (or two) ways that you would recommend for others to be involved in ending human trafficking from here in the US?

Either donate your time or money to a non profit that is working hard to fight this modern day form of slavery. I would recommend doing a search in your city to see if there are any non profits that are taking on the fight against human trafficking, if not begin to educate yourself, family and anyone you can about what is going on in the world. The first place we must start is to educate others about what is happening, only then can we as a people stand up as one and actively put a stop to it.
