The hard thing about home is keeping the fire burning. Not just meals, schedules, lunches, sheets, and snacks. But your inner fire…for God…burning.
I finally remembered to use my flameless votives this year, so this little house has had a fire “burning” inside almost every night. It reminds me that I need to take care of myself and nurture my own fire, so that He can shine out the windows and doors to those around me.
I want my kids to know my energy, my effectiveness, my love for them-everything-comes out of that fire for Him. I am not great at it though. Sometimes I want to add those fake logs (that make your house smell like a woodburning stove) just to cover up the stench of my own selfishness.
I need my heart to be consumed by Him this Christmas. I need His joy to replace the ick in my heart that could shine through. I want to reflect Him like the well polished trays we will all use this season to serve others with.
Lord, keep my home fires burning for You. Help me to see others through Your eyes, with Your compassion.
What does your home fire look like this year?
